You make many important points in this piece, Logan, and I applaud you. The first time i heard someone being openly racist i was so shocked I couldn't sleep that night. I tried to work out how i should have/could have responded in case it ever happened again. I learnt that you should never call someone a racist because they will defend themselves. I learnt that it is better to say: "Do you realise that what you just said was a racist comment." It is a subtle difference (attacking their behaviour rather than them) but they will find it harder to defend. And it has given me the confidence to call people out. I am also acutely aware that i have grown up in an institutionally racist country with white privilege and it is not always easy to recognise when/if i am being (unconsciously) racist. I hope others would call me out if i were. A🙏💚
