Well done for dodging that bullet. The scammers are indeed getting more and more clever. So many heartbreaking stories out there, with some people losing their life savings. My credit card got cloned recently. No idea how or where but I'm never using a pay at the pump petrol station again. Just in case. Fortunately my Bank picked it up quickly. They realised that the chances I had used my card in England and then one hour later was in the USA was suspicious 🤣.
