… had to fight 15 years for MLK’s holiday — it took six million signatures and a Stevie Wonder song. Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi still pair the holiday with the southern Confederate General, Robert E. Lee’s birthday, who owned slaves, inherited or not — an insult within itself.
