Context: I used to write weekly emails to my children. This is an extract from one written in 2014

Characters:
Ann: my cleaning lady
Sandra: her daughter

Ann came up to look at the vegetables I am growing this week and asked if the things growing in one bed were the croquettes that Sandra is also growing. I worked out she meant courgettes*. I’m getting better at this . . .

*courgettes = zucchini in the USA. Even there they bear no resemblance to potato croquettes. Thanks Sara Larca

I came, I wrote, I conquered. That last bit might not be true, but at least I am putting up a good fight.
