This really resonates with me Amanda, as I am currently reading The Gift, by Lewis Hyde.

My favourite line is the one where you say that the gift of sharing your work with others is also a gift to yourself. I love that. I was going to wait until I had finished reading the book before trying to express how I feel about the link between art and gifts. You have beaten me to it!
