The first time I went to see a psychologist he asked me to write an essay about myself in the third person. One of my sentences read: "She puts other people before herself".

He questioned it, and i am grateful to him.

I was brought up to put others before myself.

It would be years before I properly understood the toxicity and lack of self-worth inherent in my statement.
