The first time I went to America in 1990, I was shocked by the portion sizes. One plate was enough to feed me and all four of my children.

It still horrifies me when people throw food away especially when they have helped themselves to buffet food.

I love that school lunchtime is considered part of a child's education in Japan and that doctors can prescribe diet and exercise over pills.

The UK has much to learn from the Japanese too. We often follow in the footsteps of the US, and obesity is on the rise here.

Part of the problem is that most people would rather die than change their diets.
