So well written, Boots. And I applaud you for tackling such an emotive subject. To Willow, i would say that i do not find smokers any more or less selfish than others. There are selfish non-smokers and unselfish smokers. And, yes, the world is full of people lacking courtesy and common sense. To single out smokers seems very unfair. I can't remember who it was now, but, when we could smoke on aeroplanes, there was a famous person, a non-smoker himself, who said that he always sat in the smoking section because he found smokers to be more fun and interesting than non-smokers. Me, too. I generally find them more forgiving of other's faults. I love the story about the cafe owner joining you on the sidewalk. I've shared cigarettes with homeless people and titled people and have come away enriched by the experience. Every single time. The stance against smoking worries me. Because where will it end - alcohol next? Or sugar? The obesity epidemic is costing the NHS far more than smoking. I'm glad that smoking was banned in indoor spaces. But outside? Honestly? I still think some of the people who get in a hoo-hah about it are just jealous that we smokers are laughing and having more fun. A💚

I came, I wrote, I conquered. That last bit might not be true, but at least I am putting up a good fight.
