Snow — The Great Leveller

A poem

The wealthy city gent
Muffled and mittened
Coddled in cashmere layers
Hunched over as he trudges
Through biting wind
Looking
For all the world
Like the tramp
Who wanders homeless

Gardens with unkempt foliage
And scattered debris
Bin bags, old plastic toys,
A shopping trolley even
Looking
As pristine
As the weedless lawns and borders
Of neighbours’ who sneer
In warmer weather.

Oh settle deeply, silent snow
Settle far and wide
Softly now remind us
We are all the same
Inside.

I came, I wrote, I conquered. That last bit might not be true, but at least I am putting up a good fight.
