So many books. So hard to choose. Photo by author.

I am not going to give away any spoilers here. In fact, I’m not even going to tell you much about the contents. I’m just going to share with you how these books made me feel.

In no particular order because that would be too hard:

Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk

This story is described on the back as an “existential thriller.” It had me gripped, and I didn’t want it to end. PS: Olga Tokarczuk won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Enough said.

Opening line:

I am already at an age and additionally in a state where I must always wash my feet thoroughly before bed, in the event of having to be removed by an ambulance in the Night.

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

Winner of the Women’s Prize for Fiction, 2023. I read this slowly because, again, I did not want it to end — Barbara at her best.

Opening line:

First, I got myself born.

Priestdaddy by Patricia Lockwood

Because sometimes we just need to have a pyjama day and a good laugh. This is one of my favourite memoirs of all time.

I came, I wrote, I conquered. That last bit might not be true, but at least I am putting up a good fight.
