I've had children and dogs and i would never say it is like having a child, although i understand why peopel do. I'd say having a puppy is harder than having a baby: you do have sleepless nights, and you do have to watch them 24/7. And teach them. I used to say that having 4 boys was like having dogs: they needed lots of exercise and strong boundaries 🤣. Pets do, well dogs anyway, really get to you at a soul level. I never cried when my parents died, but did when my first dog died. Your whole day revolves around them, so it leaves a gaping hole. I don't think you can understand until you have one. Suzanne Clothier said it all when she said:

“Take one lifetime with animals. Grind it hard against mistakes and misunderstanding. Season heavily with the desire to get it right, and layer generously with the forgiveness of every animal who passed through your hands. Stew for years, being sure that gifted teachers (animal or human) stir the mess from time to time as needed so it keeps cooking. Serve when it begins to get clear. Yield: a few precious drops worth having”

In kindness, A🙏💚

I came, I wrote, I conquered. That last bit might not be true, but at least I am putting up a good fight.
