It is interesting to learn more about the Australian constitution. The councils here don't own Crown land - only the Queen, oops, King now, owns Crown land (like a lot of Cornwall). Councils own lots of recreational land and allotments and golf courses and they own council houses and also buy private houses to use as council houses (which they rent out cheaply to those that need help with housing). Under Thatcher a lot of the council houses were sold to the people living in them at a discount - it was pretty disastrous and there has been a shortage of council houses ever since. Don't quote me, I'm no expert. But i think that is closer to the way it works here in the UK.
It seems strange to me that the colonies would not want to do something similar - rent out (cheaply) what land and property they own for the benefit of the people. It is a strange world. A🙏💚
