Bear with me as I try to simplify this: if I pay $15 a month to be a member, let's assume Medium keep $5 for costs, then the amount that then gets distributed out to the people I read is $10. Assuming all articles are the same length, then, if I read only ten articles in a month, each read will earn the writer $1. If, on the other hand, I read 100 articles in one month (more likely) then the amount that will be distributed to each writer I read will be more like 10 cents. None of us can know how many articles our readers are reading.

What works for me is to let go of all expectations and just enjoy the writing. Hope that insight helps a bit.
