A PHOTO STORY

I Built a Garden for a Humming-Bird Moth

But I had to destroy his old home first. Would he come back?

Not the best view of a Humming-Bird Moth because you cannot see his long proboscis or get any sense of how he hovers, just like a hummingbird.

We bought a view in Cornwall that came with a tired bungalow and garden attached.

No one went into the garden because it was hard to access the two lower levels from the top terrace.

It had some odd features:

An ugly stone grotto
This was one of the first things I destroyed. Photo by author.

But there was a delightful surprise: a regular visitor to the tired garden was a Humming-bird Hawk-moth. This was my first attempt at photographing it:

Good luck spotting it in this one. Photo by author.

With time, I got closer:

I came, I wrote, I conquered. That last bit might not be true, but at least I am putting up a good fight.
