I am so sorry for your loss, Susan.

Our first dog was a chocolate labrador, and I was more upset when he died than when my parents did. I swore I would never get another dog because the grief and pain was so unbearable. Until a kind friend took me to one side and told me that she loved her first dog, but it was her second one, which she felt was her soul guide. And the pain of the loss is worth it for all we gain when they are with us.

It took me 7 years before I got another one.
