Landing

I had just had roll-mop hair extensions —they were very briefly a thing in the 1980s — and was under strict instructions not to get them wet for one week.

Alas, that was exactly the week we had booked to take the children to Center Parcs where the highlight for them was the central dome with its numerous water slides.

Shrieking with delight, as only young children can, they implored me to have a go on the tamest slide.

“You won’t get your hair wet, Mum. Look!” they pestered. I watched a number of adults emerge from the tunnel and drop gently into the three feet of water…
