I couldn’t find a non-copyrighted photo of Roots Manuva, so instead: Photo by Eilis Garvey on Unsplash.

I put “old” in the title in case anyone under the age of 41 is reading this. Old age is always 20 years older than you are.

I’m not old. I visited a 94-year-old this week, and she called me a spring chicken. I am going to see her more often, even though she talked non-stop for two hours and I had to have a lie down when I got home.

The story of my brush with Roots Manuva starts a while ago when I decided to address my lack of education in a fit of mild insanity. Three of my four sons all have degrees (one is even a Master of something), and I felt I needed to up my game.

Proper University was out of the question, what with eye-watering fees and student loans and, you know, actual study.

So I went the Open University route and opted for the cheapest course to start gaining points: a Foundation Degree in Arts and Languages.

Somewhere in the middle of Block 3, we were working on language and were asked to watch and study a Roots Manuva video called Witness the Fitness

If you have never seen it, it is worth watching here:

I came, I wrote, I conquered. That last bit might not be true, but at least I am putting up a good fight.
