Hi Christopher,

Many thanks for your read and your excellent question (not naive at all)

Stardust has replied to you in the comments section, and I will try to add to what she has said. I am pleased to read that your dyskinesia is largely resolved.

My understanding is that tardive dyskinesia is linked to medication and the "movements are less complex, less ritualistic, and are not volitional." Stimming, on the other hand, also known as self-stimulating behaviour or Sterotypies are described as semi-voluntary, but are still a poorly understood feature of autism. Stereotypies are described as comforting, calming, and even enjoyable. Stimming is often a protective response to over-stimulation. However, i don't think things are clear cut. Many with autism also have other developmental disorders which may contribute and it becomes hard to separate what is (semi) voluntary and what is involuntary depending on their brain (damage). I hope that has helped shed a bit of light on things. A🙏💚

I came, I wrote, I conquered. That last bit might not be true, but at least I am putting up a good fight.
