Full Circle: Parent to Child

A poem

You’d form a circle
Around my neck
Small arms
All warm and soft

You’d cling like a monkey
And I’d carry you
All the way
To bed

With strength of lion
And mother’s pride
I’d hold you
Safe from harm

I fed you, loved you
Kept you
Taught you
Too quickly you spread your wings

Invisible threads
Were stretched so thin
Yet still
An unbreakable bond

A mother’s love
Is an endless thing
It grows
In absence too

You went away
And then came back
We stood
In the airport hall

When did it change?
When did you grow?
Now you hold me
And I cling to you

I came, I wrote, I conquered. That last bit might not be true, but at least I am putting up a good fight.
