Mark Twain* was wrong when he said:

It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt

I lived like that for decades, and it kept me ignorant.

These days, I opt for the opposite approach. I admit my foolishness and allow clever people to enlighten me. Clever people like you.

I have a long list of things that confuse me. Let’s start with three and see how we get on . . .

Question Number One

You know how they drill for oil? That’s not the question, by the way. I shall be throwing the odd rhetorical one in to make sure you’re concentrating. They dig deep for oil, don’t they? That’s because oil is made from ancient marine organisms like plankton that have been squished and buried under layers and layers of stuff. And those little marine creatures are millions of years old. PS: I fact-checked this, and the internet agrees with me.

This ties in with the fact that the older something is, the further down you have to dig to find it.

Like you have to dig deeper to find Neolithic things than Roman things.

I came, I wrote, I conquered. That last bit might not be true, but at least I am putting up a good fight.
