I SAY HUMOUR, YOU SAY HUMOR. LET’S CALL THE WHOLE THING WRONG SPELLING

21 Days of Positivity Gone Wrong

The comedy of embracing negativity

Red haired young woman in a light blue jumper with her arms raised in front of her, with her two thumbs pointing down. She looks a bit negative. Bright yellow background

The Characters:

Me: autistic, semi-educated.
Roger: my long-suffering husband, a retired Maths teacher.

I’ve just realised that introducing “The Characters” might make people think this is fiction. It isn’t. It’s a faithful recreation of the exact conversation I had with Roger yesterday. Enjoy.

Me: I’ve been trying to do this challenge I read about on Medium where I don’t say anything negative for 21 days.

Roger: How’s that working out?

Me: Brilliantly, until I have to speak to another human being. Every time I complain, I have to start over. I’ve got 21 Day One’s under my belt, and I think I’m broken. So, I’ve decided to come at it from a different angle and explain to the world that we should embrace negativity. Like batteries do.

Roger: ? [? stands for the judgy face Roger pulls. Not enough words have been invented to describe this face, so I’m just putting a question mark for now. I might try and invent the right words later.]

I came, I wrote, I conquered. That last bit might not be true, but at least I am putting up a good fight.
